Build Your Own Helmet-Hat Rack

Here is how I build a pretty easy Helmet-Hat rack. All it takes is a 1x4x8 piece of pine lumber, a square utility hook, a long dowel and a drill bit.

Take the 1x4x8 and mark the place you want the utility hook. Drill a pilot hole and screw in the utility hook. Take a Dremmel rotary tool or hacksaw and cut off the excess screw length from the back of the board.

Now hang your helmet on the hook and use it to measure the spacing for the first hat. Put a hat under the helmet. Use a marker to mark the spacing. Cut the dowel into 2" - 3" pieces. Get the drill bit and drill a hole slightly angled downward.

Tap the cut dowel into the hole. Hang another hat and mark the next hole, drill hole, tap the cut dowel into the hole. Repeat until done.

Take the completed rack or racks and hang them. I used hollow wall anchors to hang them on either side of my closet in my office. I also use metal over the door hooks to hang up my jackets. That is all it took and I have a good way to organize my helmets hats and jackets.

I hope this has been helpful for you.
